“If you want career prospects and opportunities, this is the right place”.

So what was my focus in 2004, when I joined the trainee programme at Deka? The activities of controlling. On the recommendation of a friend, I took a look at the Deka advertisement. I knew little about the city of Frankfurt and real estate funds at the time. But as we all know, life writes exciting stories – with a script that changes over time and has its own dynamics. So in 2004 I took the plunge and seized the opportunity that Deka offered me.

Christian Bauer, Head of Management Data, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, started as a trainee in Controlling at Deka in 2004

Today, two decades later, I can say that it was a good decision to embrace the unknown. Although I grew up in the Ruhr area, Frankfurt has become a second home for me. And professionally, I have found my calling: Because today I am still fully committed to my work at Deka Immobilien in Frankfurt. Every day has given me good reasons for this.

From the very beginning, I have enjoyed a trusting, collegial environment and, from a professional perspective, a varied playing field with a good mix of the new and the familiar. By new, I mean: a wide variety of fields of work, interesting tasks and challenges that the projects themselves, but also the changes in the market, bring with them. Being able to get a taste of different areas in a company offers scope for development – I think that’s really important in the first few years of your career.

And when I say “familiar”, I mean: security, consistency, and a culture of togetherness. Of course, at a company of our stature, there are firmly established structures and processes. But there are also many areas where flexibility and openness to new ideas are required.

MY DEKA STORY:

Deka Immobilien has been a mainstay in the international property world for many decades. The company is constantly evolving – and also gives its employees the opportunity to develop professionally and personally. Recognising, challenging, and promoting strengths - that’s what I’ve experienced from the very beginning in the company. During my time as a trainee, my line manager gave me responsibility early on, for example in helping to organise management reporting. As Group Manager, I was primarily involved in controlling and the strategy of the business division. And today I’m in charge of the Management Data, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable department. If you have ideas, you can realise them and find support from experienced colleagues – so you have stability and flexibility at the same time. This experience has accompanied and motivated me for over 20 years with many exciting changes of perspective.

YOU CAN GROW AT DEKA:

One great thing at Deka is that employees are given the space and tools for further development, growth, and carving their own professional profile. The company therefore offers a large portfolio of internal and external training opportunities, coaching and management seminars for all employees and management levels. This is a real boost for your own development. At the same time, the company always sees its employees as people – and therefore also offers a valuable counselling service for all situations in life. This is because the company does not just recognise and focus on the professional, but on the personal, too, and a healthy work-life balance. This also applies to diversity, which is becoming increasingly important at Deka.

WORKING AT DEKA...

makes me happy because I see Deka as a stable and reliable employer, which also invests in future technologies with its own high development dynamics. With this in mind, I am also looking forward to making my contribution as Head of Management Data, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable in the team. The amount of data that our company processes also requires the examination and utilisation of digital options. Of course, there is discussion and sometimes friction. This is part of constructive, interdisciplinary exchange. It’s the only way to find the best solution. Working at Deka also means constantly meeting new people and establishing and maintaining relationships. I find that very enriching, both professionally and personally. That’s why I like to meet up with colleagues after work. I would summarise working at Deka as follows: anyone who wants to get something off the ground can play an active role here.
