Decathlon signs long-term lease extension in Rotterdam

Deka Immobilien has extended the long-term lease agreement with internationally active sporting goods retailer Decathlon for its flagship store on Coolsingel, the iconic main thoroughfare in central Rotterdam. The approximately 6,300 sqm retail space, spread over two floors, has been a well-established sports destination in the heart of the city since its opening in 2016.

Once a canal, Coolsingel is now one of Rotterdam’s most prominent urban axes, combining historical significance, architectural quality, and heavy footfall. Flanked by landmarks such as city hall, the stock exchange, and the World Trade Center, and lined with numerous retail stores, it is considered the vibrant core of the city and one of the Netherlands’ most important shopping streets.

The leased property is a ten-storey, mixed-use building with a total rental area of approximately 19,800 sqm. Originally built in 1954, it was extensively refurbished in 2014 by Allies & Morrison. In addition to a dedicated entrance for a luxury apartment unit, the building offers a spacious terrace on the fourth floor, underground parking, and various on-site restaurants and supermarkets. The location benefits from excellent public transport connections and proximity to the airport. The property is part of the open-ended real estate fund Deka-ImmobilienEuropa.

As part of its international expansion strategy, Decathlon plans to fully modernise the Rotterdam store, with completion scheduled for 2025. The aim is to deliver a premium, intuitive shopping experience—both in-store and digital.

The lease renewal highlights the attractiveness of high-quality city-centre locations within Deka Immobilien’s portfolio and reflects the shared commitment to creating long-term value for tenants, neighbourhoods, and investors alike.
